 Stephen Fleischman Lectureship Series: William Weege on Sam Gilliam
Saturday, April 7, 2018. 7 pm. Celebrated artist William Weege will discuss his long-standing friendship and 45-year creative collaboration with Sam Gilliam that has generated pioneering approaches to printmaking. Weege's approach has allowed the artists he worked with to break new ground. A reception will follow in the MMoCA Lobby. Admission is free but reservations are required. The artist's vision comes to life in his illuminated sculptures which combine the human form with characters from eight languages.  Artist Talk: Irene Grau
Friday, May 4, 2018. 6:30 pm. Irene Grau will discuss a new body of work she began during her five-week artist residency in Madison in the summer of 2017. Her plein air paintings draw attention to little-noticed aspects of the city's environment and identify instances of monochromatic abstraction in everyday scenes. Grau describes her artistic interventions as "going out in search of painting with a camera and a pair of hiking boots on." Seating in MMoCA's lecture hall is limited. Free.  RAM 9th Annual International PEEPS Art Competition
Thursday, March 22, 2018 through Sunday, April 8, 2018. 10 am - 5 pm. Within the pristine white walls of a contemporary art museum that overlooks Lake Michigan, the Racine Art Museum presents an untraditional exhibition showcasing fluffy, sugar-coated marshmallow PEEPS. The RAM 9th Annual International PEEPS Art Competition will open to the public on March 22 and run through April 8. Each year, the show's popularity draws nearly 4,000 visitors to the museum during its three-week run, setting daily spring attendance records along the way.
